A Journey of Excellence and Inspiration
Today marks a remarkable milestone—five years since Iniala Harbour House first opened its doors along Valletta’s iconic Grand Harbour. What began in 2020 as a bold vision to bring a new level of luxury hospitality to the island, has since become a story of innovation, dedication, and extraordinary achievement.
Over the past five years, Iniala Harbour House and ION Harbour have continually redefined what luxury means—not just through world-class service and design, but through a deep sense of purpose, community, and creativity.
2020: The Beginning
On 5 November 2020, Iniala Harbour House and ION Harbour officially opened, introducing a new chapter in Valletta’s hospitality story. The hotel’s fusion of contemporary design, timeless architecture, and personalised service set a new benchmark for luxury in Malta.
2021: First Recognition
The following year brought early recognition. ION Harbour received its first Three Forks award from Star Journey in collaboration with Forbes Travel Guide. Just two months later, the restaurant was awarded its first Michelin star—less than a year after opening.
2022: Setting New Standards
In February 2022, Iniala Harbour House became Malta’s first Forbes Five-Star hotel, establishing itself as a leader in Mediterranean hospitality. Later that year, we expanded our cultural footprint with the opening of our Iniala Modern building, featuring rooms and suites designed by Spanish studio ACERO.
2023: New Partnerships
2023 marked the arrival of Chef Simon Rogan as Chef Patron at ION Harbour, introducing a new culinary philosophy centred on sustainability and seasonal excellence. Iniala also joined the Virtuoso Preferred Supplier network, becoming part of the world’s most prestigious collection of luxury travel brands. We also opened Pied-à-Terre, an elegant residence designed for those who seek privacy.
2024: A Year of Milestones
Last year was one of extraordinary accomplishment.
In April 2024, ION Harbour became the first restaurant in Malta to earn two Michelin stars, a historic moment for the island’s culinary scene.
Throughout the year, Iniala and ION Harbour—along with our owner, Mark Weingard, and ION Harbour’s chef patron, Simon Rogan—continued to receive national and international recognition for excellence in hospitality, sustainability, gastronomy, and wine curation.
2025: Giving Back and Looking Ahead
This year, Iniala continues to evolve with purpose.
In April 2025, we launched our 1+1 Initiative, a charitable programme designed to raise funds for local causes and give back to the community. We also launched La Maison, a magnificent three-bedroom residence overlooking the Grand Harbour.
Just last month, Iniala Harbour House made history once more, becoming the first hotel in Malta to receive two Michelin Keys in the debut of this accolade on the islands.
A Future Built on Passion and Purpose
Here’s to five years of excellence—and to the next chapter of inspiration, innovation, and intuitive hospitality at Iniala Harbour House.
